Chicken wings are always delicious and crispy when you cook them on a braai, maybe it’s the atmosphere that goes with it? So, cue my real-life struggle to make oven-baked wings just as crispy as they get on a braai. And I nailed it!! Check out the recipe below for my insanely crispy baked chicken wings. The secret is to bake the wings just with a few spices and add the marinade on after they have been cooked. Game Changer! Try it and let me know how it goes.
Crispy baked Chicken Wings Recipe:
Spices for the wings:
- 3 teaspoons paprika
- 3 teaspoons Mustard powder
- 1kg chicken wings
Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celcius. Place chicken wings onto an oven tray. Then, dust a thin layer of all these spices onto both sides of the chicken wings. Next, place the wings into the oven and bake them for 15 minutes on each side, until the skin on the wings is browned and crispy. It’s important to keep in mind that all-overs vary so keep an eye on your wings.
Now, whilst the wings are in the oven it’s time to prepare your marinade. Remember that the secret is to use the marinade once the wings are cooked!
- 1 tbs mustard
- Small garlic clove
- 1 tbs olive oil
- Pinch of chilli flakes
- 1 tbs raw honey
Use a bowl that is large enough to add the chicken wings to once they are cooked. Next, grate or thinly slice your garlic and mix the raw honey, mustard, olive oil together and add a pinch of chili flakes for extra spice. Once it’s evenly mixed and your wings are cooked. Add the wings to the marinade and coat them evenly.
Serve with sweet potato wedges and a fresh salad!
